Hope for Haiti: Tees Charity Project for 2010 Haiti Earthquake

Hi All,
Currently my blogshop is busy with our latest project; in aid for the Haitians who were badly affected by the recent Earthquake and I would like to call upon Vogue-ers to lend a helping hand in support to rebuild lives.

An horrendous earthquake furiously shook Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world, flattening hospitals, schools, the Presidential Palace and thousands of homes.

Tens of thousands are dead and more than three million people have been affected by the disaster. Even before the disaster, many Haitians already found it difficult to conduct ordinary lives — 85 per cent of them live on less than $3 a day.

Now they have lost their loved ones, their homes and their livelihoods, and they are trying to survive without clean water, food or shelter, and with very little medical assistance. The scale of the disaster is immense.

According to the UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon, this is one of the worst ever humanitarian emergencies. The damage to the already-poor Haiti infrastructure is so great that even providing emergency relief has proven extremely difficult.

We are collaborating with DoubletakeClothing from the US and our printer, Booyod Republic from Malaysia in our pledge to support the Haitians.

All net proceeds will go to several Haiti Earthquake Relief Organizations including The Singapore Red Cross Society and World Vision Singapore. We, Bo Janggo is not charging any overhead (we make $0!) and all delivery costs (registered mail) are included. International buyers from Malaysia are mostly welcome to purchase the t-shirts as we have Booyod Republic representing us too. (Payments through Maybank account transfers.) Donations from Malaysians will be forwarded to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society.

Any other form of donations are also welcome. We will periodically keep you updated with our estimated total donation here. :)

Note: This is a pre-order item, so we will get the shirts to you as fast as possible. (max: 1 week.)

IN THE KITCHEN WITH MAMA MORALLE.......SALAD RECIPES

Halo halo voguerssssss..........lets eat healthy this wkends, fruits n vege, aint it healthy, hehe :):)

Make Great Side Dishes With These Easy Salad Recipes!

Fruit Salad Recipes

Fruit salad recipes don't have to be fancy or made with a large number of different ingredients. Just cutting up an apple and putting it on a plate or in a bowl can be enough to call it a fruit salad.

When I make a fruit salad I simply go to the grocery store and buy 1 or 2 of a variety of different fruits. I like to really mix it up with citrus, berries, melons, apples, bananas, peaches, and whatever else I can find. I sometimes mix fresh and canned fruits which gives the salad lots of extra juice.

Fruits Ingredients :
1 grapefruit
2 oranges
2 bananas
6 large strawberries-sliced
2 nectarines
honeydew melon balls from 1/2 of a melon

Keep salad in the refrigerator covered with clear plastic wrap. This salad should be eaten within 1 day as some of the ingredients will get mushy and brown over time.

You can serve this salad as is or dress it with a whipped topping, yogurt, or instant pudding.

Classic Potato Salad Recipes
They may take a little time to make, but these classic potato salad recipes are very popular and easy to make.

You don’t need any fancy ingredients to make the basic version of this dish, just start with potatoes and mayonnaise, add some vegetables of your choice, season with a little salt or other condiment and you have your own unique version.

Ingredients:
Potatoes
6 hard boiled eggs
mayonnaise

Extra veggys:
Purple onion
Orange peppers
broccoli
celery

Peel and boil enough potatoes to fill your salad bowl. Rinse cooked potatoes under cold water and let cool. When cooled, put the potatoes back in the pot and chop them into roughly even sized pieces.

Peel and chop 4 of the hard boiled eggs and add them to the pot.

Chop the vegetables and add a little at a time until you have an even mix

Add mayo a little at a time while mixing it into the salad.

When you have the right consistency, sample and add salt to taste.

When ready, transfer salad to your bowl, peel and slice the remaining 2 eggs and place on top of the salad. Garnish with a little paprika if desired and you are ready to eat.

There's lots of ways to tweak this salad, such as using any gourmet mustard you might have, or maybe you have some spicy sauces in your pantry. I find that the best potato salad recipes are made by experimenting with different ingredients as you put it together.

Broccoli Salad Recipe
This is the basic version of a broccoli salad recipe. You can add your own ingredients to if you want to spruce it up a little, such as any fruits, vegetables or nuts.

You can also mix the broccoli with cauliflower for a tasty alternative.

This is a great salad to have at home or take on the road to your next picnic, party, or pot-luck.

Ingredients:
1-2 heads broccoli
1/2 cup chopped red onion
1 cup shredded cheese

Dressing:
1 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup vinegar
1/4 cup sugar

Directions:
Cut up broccoli flowerettes into bite-sized pieces, leaving just a little stem. Cut up enough for about 4 cups of flowerettes.

Add onion, cheese and dressing.

Refrigerate 2-3 hours or overnight.

Here are a few alternatives for dressings:
Miracle Whip-instead of mayonnaise
Yogurt-usually mixed with mayonnaise 50/50.
Vinegar-any type will do such as apple cider, red wine or any flavoured.
Lemon juice-can be used with/instead of vinegar.
Sugar-substitute with Equal or Stavia.

Here are some popular add-ons for this salad:
Celery
Green onion
Olives
Peas
Carrot-sliced
Peppers-red, yellow, orange,jalepeno.
Chopped nuts
Sunflower seeds
Raisins
Seafood

Apple Carrot Salad
This apple carrot salad is an easy quick dish that needs minimal ingredients. It has a sweet flavor with a hint of vanilla that makes it a nice side dish or quick snack.

Ingredients:
2-4 carrots
1 apple

Optional Ingredients:
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup chopped nuts

Dressing:
3-4 tbsp. vanilla yogurt
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. honey

Peel and grate carrots into a bowl. Use enough to make about 2 cups.

For the apple you can either grate it down to the core or slice it up with a knife to the core and cut it up into chunks. If you grate it the flavour isn't quite as pronounced as it blends in with the carrot and doesn't always come through unless it is tart or slightly under-ripe.

I leave the skin on but you may prefer to peel the apple first.

For the dressing you can use plain yogurt and add a few drops of vanilla extract instead of vanilla yogurt. You can also experiment with different flavoured yogurts as well. Fat-free, partly skimmed or regular yogurt will all work well with this recipe. For fat free yogurt use 4 tablespoons, less for regular.

The lemon juice can be substituted with any other fruit juice you may have. Orange and lime juice are good alternatives.

If you don't have or want to use honey you can use a little sugar, artificial sweetener or even pancake syrup. Just remember to use sweeteners sparingly.

Mix dressing together in a small bowl and add to salad. Mix well and cool salad for at least an hour before serving.

Waldorf Salad Recipe
Ingredients:
1 apple-cored and cut into 1" cubes

1 celery stick-thinly sliced
1/4 cup walnuts pieces
1/4 cup seedles grapes-halved

Dressing:
2 tbsp. mayonnaise

2 tbsp. yogurt
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. lemon rind(optional)

Cut up apple, celery, grapes and add to salad bowl. Add walnut pieces as well.

Mix dressing in a small bowl. If you are using juice from a real lemon grate some of the rind and add it to the mix. If you are using lemon juice from a bottle skip this ingredient.

Add dressing to bowl and toss salad well. Refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.

Chicken Pineapple Salad Sandwich
This chicken pineapple salad sandwich has a nice tangy flavour. It's a very basic salad that doesn't have all that many ingredients but still has a very unique taste. For the dressing you can substitute any mustard for the dijon if you wish.

Ingredients:
2 cups cooked chicken-finely chopped

4 green onions-chopped
1 stick celery-finely chopped
4 slices red pepper
1 can crushed pineapple-strained
Salt & pepper

Dressing:
4 tbsp. Mayonnaise

2 tbsp. Dijon Mustard
2 tsp. lemon or lime juice

Cook chicken and refrigerate soon after. when cool, chop it up finely and add to bowl. Add other ingredients and mix thoroughly. Add salt & pepper to taste.

Store in refrigerator if not using immediately.

Make 4-6 sandwiches.

Vogue-U Potion - Meaning of Life

May Peace Be With You....

When Mak Pah received the under-mentioned article from a friend, I was touched by the morale behind the story. Let's read on......

A long time ago, there was an Emperor who told his horseman that if he could ride on his horse and cover as much land area as he likes, then the Emperor would give him the area of land he has covered. Sure enough, the horseman quickly jumped onto his horse and rode as fast as possible to cover as much land area as he could. He kept on riding and riding, whipping the horse to go as fast as possible. When he was hungry or tired, he did not stop because he wanted to cover as much area as possible. Came to a point when he had covered a substantial area and he was exhausted and was dying. Then he asked himself, "Why did I push myself so hard to cover so much land area? Now I am dying and I only need a very small area to bury myself."

The above story is similar with the journey of our Life. We push very hard everyday to make more money, to gain power and recognition. We neglect our health, time with our family and to appreciate the surrounding beauty and the hobbies we love...

One day when we look back, we will realize that we don't really need that much, but then we cannot turn back time for what we have missed.

Life is not about making money, acquiring power or recognition . Life is definitely not about work! Work is only necessary to keep us living so as to enjoy the beauty and pleasures of life. Life is a balance of Work, Family and Personal time.. You have to decide how you want to balance your Life. Define your priorities, realize what you are able to compromise but always let some of your decisions be based on your instincts. Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of Life, the whole aim of human existence.

So, take it easy, do what you want to do and appreciate nature. Life is fragile, Life is short. Do not take Life for granted. Live a balanced lifestyle and enjoy Life!

Watch your thoughts ; they become words.
Watch your words ; they become actions.
Watch your actions ; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Thinking back I realised sometimes we are so engrossed in trying to have the best in life but yet we forgot about our own self, what actually is essential for us. So the morale behind the above story is just follow the flow, do things in moderation and within your limits. Best of all enjoy life to the fullest.

Lots of Luv....... Mak Pah.

Vogue-U Potion - The Art of Origami

May Peace Be With You.....
Origami is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. The goal of this art is to create a representation of an object using geometric folds and crease patterns preferably without the use of gluing or cutting the paper, and using only one piece of paper.
Mak Pah started to learn the art of origami when I was in primary school and I got hooked immediately. Purposely bought the coloured papers to create as much folding objects as possible. So far I've created simplified foldings of "sampan", aeroplanes, ball, swan. However nowadays, the foldings are getting more complex and come from different paper sizes and textures.
Below herewith is the creation of Mr Won Park. He is the master of Origami and is also called the "money folder", a practitioner of origami whose canvas is the USD1.00 bill. Bending, twisting and folding, he creates life-like shapes in stunning detail.

So let's enjoy Mr Won Park's creations......

Wow.... very creative indeed right. I think the art of Origami somehow or another a test of our patience and endurance.....

Lots of Luv....Mak Pah

The Geek Chic 101 - The Children of Cyberspace

I found this article to be a good read and wanted to share it with everyone. It's rather scary how technologies is catching up on us.. especially the younger generations.

The Children of Cyberspace: Old Fogies by Their 20s

Here is a child only beginning to talk, revealing that the seeds of the next generation gap have already been planted. She has identified the Kindle as a substitute for words printed on physical pages. I own the device and am still not completely sold on the idea.

My daughter’s worldview and life will be shaped in very deliberate ways by technologies like the Kindle and the new magical high-tech gadgets coming out this year — Google’s Nexus One phone and Apple’s impending tablet among them. She’ll know nothing other than a world with digital books, Skype video chats with faraway relatives, and toddler-friendly video games on the iPhone. She’ll see the world a lot differently from her parents.

But these are also technology tools that children even 10 years older did not grow up with, and I’ve begun to think that my daughter’s generation will also be utterly unlike those that preceded it.

Researchers are exploring this notion too. They theorize that the ever-accelerating pace of technological change may be minting a series of mini-generation gaps, with each group of children uniquely influenced by the tech tools available in their formative stages of development.

“People two, three or four years apart are having completely different experiences with technology,” said Lee Rainie, director of the Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project. “College students scratch their heads at what their high school siblings are doing, and they scratch their heads at their younger siblings. It has sped up generational differences.”

One obvious result is that younger generations are going to have some very peculiar and unique expectations about the world. My friend’s 3-year-old, for example, has become so accustomed to her father’s multitouch iPhone screen that she approaches laptops by swiping her fingers across the screen, expecting a reaction.

And after my 4-year-old niece received the very hot Zhou-Zhou pet hamster for Christmas, I pointed out that the toy was essentially a robot, with some basic obstacle avoidance skills. She replied matter-of-factly: “It’s not a robot. It’s a pet.”

These mini-generation gaps are most visible in the communication and entertainment choices made by different age groups. According to a survey last year by Pew, teenagers are more likely to send instant messages than slightly older 20-somethings (68 percent versus 59 percent) and to play online games (78 percent versus 50 percent).

Larry Rosen, a professor of psychology at California State University, Dominguez Hills, and the author of the coming “Rewired: Understanding the iGeneration and the Way They Learn,” has also drawn this distinction between what he calls the Net Generation, born in the 1980s, and the iGeneration, born in the ’90s and this decade.

Now in their 20s, those in the Net Generation, according to Dr. Rosen, spend two hours a day talking on the phone and still use e-mail frequently. The iGeneration — conceivably their younger siblings — spends considerably more time texting than talking on the phone, pays less attention to television than the older group and tends to communicate more over instant-messenger networks.

Dr. Rosen said that the newest generations, unlike their older peers, will expect an instant response from everyone they communicate with, and won’t have the patience for anything less.
“They’ll want their teachers and professors to respond to them immediately, and they will expect instantaneous access to everyone, because after all, that is the experience they have growing up,” he said. “They should be just like their older brothers and sisters, but they are not.”

The boom of kid-focused virtual worlds and online games like Club Penguin and Moshi Monsters especially intrigues Mizuko Ito, a cultural anthropologist and associate researcher at the University of California Humanities Research Institute.

Dr. Ito said that children who play these games would see less of a distinction between their online friends and real friends; virtually socializing might be just as fulfilling as a Friday night party. And they would be more likely to participate actively in their own entertainment, clicking at the keyboard instead of leaning back on the couch.

That could give them the potential to be more creative than older generations — and perhaps make them a more challenging target for corporate marketers. “It’s certainly no longer true that kids are just blindly consuming what commercial culture has to offer,” Dr. Ito said.

Another bubbling intra-generational gap, as any modern parent knows, is that younger children tend to be ever more artful multitaskers. Studies performed by Dr. Rosen at Cal State show that 16- to 18-year-olds perform seven tasks, on average, in their free time — like texting on the phone, sending instant messages and checking Facebook while sitting in front of the television.

People in their early 20s can handle only six, Dr. Rosen found, and those in their 30s perform about five and a half.
That versatility is great when they’re killing time, but will a younger generation be as focused at school and work as their forebears?

“I worry that young people won’t be able to summon the capacity to focus and concentrate when they need to,” said Vicky Rideout, a vice president at the Kaiser Family Foundation, which will release a sweeping survey on the technology and media habits of children and teenagers this month.

Children my daughter’s age are also more likely to have some relaxed notions about privacy. The idea of a phone or any other device that is persistently aware of its location and screams out its geographic coordinates, even if only to friends, might seem spooky to older age groups.

But the newest batch of Internet users and cellphone owners will find these geo-intelligent tools to be entirely second nature, and may even come to expect all software and hardware to operate in this way.

Here is where corporations can start licking their chops. My daughter and her peers will never be “off the grid.” And they may come to expect that stores will emanate discounts as they walk by them, and that friends can be tracked down anywhere.

“If it’s something you grow up with, you have a completely different comfort with it than someone who has had to unlearn something about the world,” said Mr. Rainie, of the Pew project.

It’s not yet clear whether these disparities between adjacent groups of children and teenagers will simply fade away, as the older groups come to embrace the new technology tools, or whether they will deepen into more serious rifts between various generations.

But the children, teenagers and young adults who are passing through this cauldron of technological change will also have a lot in common. They’ll think nothing of sharing the minutiae of their lives online, staying connected to their friends at all times, buying virtual goods, and owning one über-device that does it all.

They will believe the Kindle is the same as a book. And they will all think their parents are hopelessly out of touch.

The Geek Chic WWW - Wise Words of Wisdom

F A M I L Y

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,

"Oh excuse me please" was my reply.

He said, "Please excuse me too;

I wasn't watching for you."

We were very polite, this stranger and I.

We went on our way and we said goodbye..

But at home a different story is told,

How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,

My son stood beside me very still.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.

"Move out of the way," I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.

I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,

God's still small voice came to me and said,

"While dealing with a stranger,
common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse."

Go and look on the kitchen floor,

You'll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.

He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,

you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."

By this time, I felt very small,

And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;

"Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.

"Are these the flowers you picked for me?"

He smiled, "I found 'em, out by the tree.

I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.

I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue."

I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;

I shouldn't have yelled at you that way."

He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay.

I love you anyway."

I said, "Son, I love you too,

and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

FAMILY

Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company
that we are working for could easily replace us in

a matter of days.

But the family we left behind will feel the loss

for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more

into work than into our own family,
an unwise investment indeed,
don't you think?

So what is behind the story?

Do you know what the word FAMILY means?

FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU

IN THE KITCHEN WITH MAMA MORALLE....DESSERT

Hi there voguerrrssssss, salam Jumaat and selamat berwkends ………….this week mama would like to share with all a simple dessert to try.

I ate this during my niece wedding last Sunday, so decided to find the recipe and try it. This dessert tastes great eaten cold and is suitable for kids and adults. Very refreshing indeed on a hot and humid day.

This dessert combines the sweet and fragrant taste of fresh honey dew fruit with the jelly-like texture of sago in a refreshing syrup-based drink.

Ingredients
· 1 bowl of cubed honey dew
· 1 tablespoon of sago
· 5 tablespoons of sugar
· 3 pieces pandan (screwpine) leaves tied to a knot
· Evaporated milk
· Water

Method

Chill honey dew cubes in the fridge.

To prepare sugar syrup, bring to boil 3 bowls of water in a pot. Add pandan leaves and sugar. Stir until sugar has completely melted. Allow to cool to room temperature. Then remove pandan leaves and chill sugar syrup in the fridge.

To prepare sago, place sago in a strainer. Bring water to boil in a pot. Get ready another big bowl with cold / iced water. Place strainer into pot and boil the sago whilst stirring the sago with chopsticks or fork. Once sago has turned semi-translucent, bring strainer over the bowl of cold water and stir the sago through the cold water so as to prevent clumping. Bring back sago into the boiling water and boil for another 2 to 3 minutes. By now, at least 50 to 70% of sago should be translucent. Some prefer fully translucent sago which requires longer boiling time. Some prefer semi-translucent sago. I shall leave it up to you on this. Remove sago from boiling water and place in cold water (with the sago still inside the strainer) until you need to serve them.

To serve, combine about equal amount of honey dew cubes and sago in a bowl. Add sugar syrup and evaporated milk to your liking. You should have 2 to 3 servings using this recipe, unless you decide to place them in one big bowl and have it all yourself, haha…. You may also add ice cubes before serving.

Selamat mencuba ya……

Vogue-U Potion - Recap of Space: 1999

May Peace Be Upon You....

When Mama Ann posted about the sci-fi movie Avatar last week, and then the recollection of the serial Space: 1999 and V. And since majority did not know of Space: 1999 series, thus it has given me an idea to google about it and voila, I managed to get a sypnosis of the most popular 70's science-fiction series in the net. Ooooo, I love it. My brothers and me would normally rushed to finish our dinner and then sat tight in front of the TV to watch the serial without fail every week. I think that time Mak Pah was only in Primary 5 and my youngest sister was still a baby! OMG, it was more than 30 years ago!!!

OK let me introduce you to Space: 1999.....

Sypnosis of Season 1:

Moonbase Alpha was a research colony on the surface of the moon. When John Koenig was appointed base commander on September 13, 1999, his orders were to oversee the launch of a deep-space probe. Unfortunately, due to the accidental detonation of nuclear wastes stored on the moon, there was a gigantic explosion and Koenig found himself launched into space, along with his 310 base colleagues. Their spaceship was the moon itself, blasted free from the Earth's gravitational force and hurtling toward distant galaxies.

En route they encounter all the alien life forms and inter galactic dangers familiar to sci-fi fans. Besides the stolid Koenig, the cast included stylish Dr. Helena Russell, chief medical officer of the base; Professor Bergman, who had established the base and was Koenig's mentor; and Captain Carter, the chief astronaut, responsible for reconnaissance missions.

Casts of Season 2

Sypnosis of Season 2:

Joining the cast in the second season were First Officer Tony Verdeschi, irreverent and sharp-tongued second in command, and his love interest Maya, a sensual alien from the planet Psychon. She had the unusual ability to transform herself into other forms for short periods by "rearranging molecules."

If I recalled, last year of before that, Channel 5 did a retelecast of the Space: 1999 series during the afternoon segment. Mak Pah was on leave and watched the episode diligently. My children giggled and remarked that the spaceships looked so artificial. I told them that they should not compare the 70's version to the millenium version of CGI (I think computer graphic images) for the special effects and designs. During those days, every detail of the spaceships and the impact it turned out on the screen were all taken into considerations. A lot of patience and tolerance in creating such effects to appear real life. Same concept of designs were used for the old Star Wars movies too.

Credit should be given to those design teams at that time. Nevertheless, we should be grateful to be able to watch such things in TV and the movies compared to those unfortunate people.

Nick Allder (L) - SFX Director (Season 1), Lighting Cameraman (Season 2), and Brian Johnson (R) - SFX Designer, Director

The show featured many intricate scale models including the Eagle and the Moon Buggy. Dozens of models for the various alien spaceships, along with the Mark IX Hawk from the "War Games" episode, were built by model maker Martin Bower, who would later also work on Alien (1979), the 1980 production of Flash Gordon, and Outland (1981).

Special effects director Brian Johnson and most of his team went on to work on Ridley Scott's Alien, followed by Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Many of the spacecraft were designed around their prescribed functionality rather than being glistening starships, adding a sense of realism that would be replicated in future science-fiction features.

OK vogue-u-ers, I hope the above will at least give you an idea how it was like during those good old days.

Enjoy!

with Lots of Luv from Mak Pah.....
